A way to get a jazzier sound is to add some color tones to the basic seventh chord. Let's drop the most expendable note ("1") from each voicing in the right hand and add the color tone "9"(2)...

Now play the right hand above as a rootless voicing in the left hand. Rootless voicings are a great way to comp when playing with a bass player who has the roots of the chords already covered. Furthermore, these rootless voicings are strong enough to stand on their own even without a bass player!

Study & Practice Tip: Do not worry too much about how these voicings are named and don't try to memorize then using chord structure numbers or stacks of intervals. Master each voicing as an integrated visio-spatial pattern and allow it to connect with your mind's ear.
