Jazz School: The Solo Development Process

The process of solo development is multi-dimensional, tapping into all aspects of your musicianship. You are going to "put it all together", using your knowledge and skill in melody, harmony, solfege, scales, chords, scale-chords, chord progressions, chord voicings, rhythms, bass lines, ear training, technique, and improvisation concepts to create something truly your own.

The process of solo development is iterative and bi-directional. Learning the tune facilitates soloing and soloing teaches you more about the tune. As you practice soloing, you will naturally develop a profound intimacy with the particular piece, but you will also develop all aspects of your overall musicianship.
